That perception is now too narrow, because Joule can do much more than just answer simple questions. SAP is increasingly positioning Joule as the way employees work with SAP Business AI. Currently, Joule provides support for information requests, analyses, and process steps. In the future, assistants and agents will work together to support entire business processes.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our colleague Joos van den Wittenboer, Principal SAP Consultant and SAP AI expert, is closely following these developments. In this blog, you\u2019ll learn what Joule is, what\u2019s relevant for your organization right now, and what you can expect in the coming period. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. What is SAP Joule?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SAP Joule is an AI solution that is integrated into day-to-day work in SAP systems. Through a conversation in your own language, you gain access to relevant information, insights, and guidance on tasks. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joule consolidates information about a process or transaction in one place. It works with data from integrated systems, business documents, and user permissions. The business context is therefore central. External information may or may not be added via a dedicated integration.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short: Joule is the gateway to the \u201cautonomous enterprise.\u201d You ask a question or specify what you want to achieve. Joule then searches within the available business context for relevant information or support.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. What can Joule do today?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joule currently supports employees in four ways:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Navigation:<\/strong> Find the right app, feature, or task faster.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Finding information:<\/strong> Look up and summarize information from SAP documentation and related company documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Analyze:<\/strong> Explore business data in plain language and present it as insights, metrics, or visualizations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Performing Actions:<\/strong> Carry out tasks and transactions without leaving the conversation with Joule, within the scope of existing authorizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joule combines these forms of support into a single approach. You ask your question, receive the relevant context, and then proceed directly to the next step in the process based on the answer. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to see how Joule works? What does that mean for your processes?  <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The processes may differ, but the bottleneck is often the same. Employees waste time searching, verifying, and coordinating. What does the future hold?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The direction SAP has announced goes beyond individual questions and separate tasks. To achieve this, SAP will work with Joule Assistants and Joule Agents. A Joule Assistant translates what an employee wants to accomplish into specific tasks. Specialized Joule Agents then carry out defined analyses and process steps. An assistant can deploy multiple agents to support a process across different functions.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, SAP positions Joule Work as the work environment where these assistants and agents come together. The focus is not on the individual application, but on the result an employee wants to achieve. To that end, Joule Work brings together information, applications, and agents from both SAP and non-SAP environments\u2014such as your calendar, but also local folders containing company-specific documentation.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This development is part of SAP\u2019s vision for the \u201cAutonomous Enterprise.\u201d In such an organization, AI can identify changes, assess their implications within the business context, and support work across entire processes. People set the goals, rules, and boundaries.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At SAP Sapphire 2026, SAP announced a portfolio featuring more than fifty domain-specific Joule Assistants and over two hundred specialized agents. With this, SAP is demonstrating the next step: from isolated AI support to coordinated support and the execution of entire processes. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sap.com\/2026\/05\/sap-sapphire-sap-unveils-autonomous-enterprise\/\">Read SAP\u2019s announcement<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. What will change for employees?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Greater autonomy certainly does not mean that employees will disappear from the process. AI collects information, identifies connections, and can suggest various courses of action. The employee chooses the appropriate course of action and thus remains an essential link in the decision-making process. AI can then support or carry out process steps within the agreed-upon permissions and rules. But the human factor will always remain part of every process.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By using AI, people spend less time on manual research and more time on exceptions, adjustments, and improvements, resulting in higher quality and productivity.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. What if the standard isn&#8217;t enough?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SAP has also introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sap.com\/products\/artificial-intelligence\/joule-studio.html\">Joule Studio<\/a> for organizations that want to develop their own agents, applications, and workflows. This allows an organization to extend SAP Business AI for processes that are not fully covered by the standard solution. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Customization doesn&#8217;t start with development. First, the process, the data, and the responsibilities must be clear. Integration, security, and governance also remain prerequisites. Otherwise, you&#8217;re mainly adding a new layer of complexity.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Where do you start?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start with a single, frequent, well-defined, and measurable process. Identify where employees spend a lot of time searching, checking, or coordinating. Then determine what information is needed and what improvements you want to measure.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, identify which SAP AI capabilities are available within your current landscape. Verify the required data, authorizations, and integrations. This will result in a feasible initial application that you can test, evaluate, and expand responsibly.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SAP Joule is already helping employees find information faster, understand business data, and take action.
